SEPTEMBER IS NICU AWARENESS MONTH

Preterm birth continues to be a critical public health issue in the United States, with a significant impact on Black families. According to the March of Dimes, between 2017 and 2019, preterm birth rates were highest among Black infants, averaging 14.0% compared to babies of other races. In 2023, Ohio recorded a preterm birth rate of 10.7%, meaning that 1 in 9 babies was born before 37 weeks gestation and according to CDC data, in 2022 Ohio's preterm birth rate was 10.84%

Each year, September is recognized as Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Awareness Month — a time to honor families with critically ill and prematurely born infants, recognize the unique challenges of NICU stays, and celebrate the dedication of the healthcare professionals who care for these tiny warriors.

At Wright’s Way Foundation, we are committed to uplifting NICU families through advocacy, emotional support, and tangible resources — helping preemies not only survive but thrive.
